Joseph Tebandeke, a 2017 MTN Wheelchair road races Champ
After a successful participation in and completion of the great "TOUR D EAC 2017" edition, Joseph Tebandeke is back again. This time around making headlines in the print and online media by winning the hotly contested MTN and UAF wheelchair wheelchair road race.
This year's start of the MTN and UAF wheelchair and Tricycle 10kms road race was delayed after a morning heavy down power. The road races took place on Sunday, starting at the Shell Lugogo and ending at the MTN Lugogo Arena.
This race was tough and challenging one! This was mainly due to the weather condition and experience of other participants. One participant who was leading the race was a one - Ocira Richard. He gave Joseph a run for his money for the biggest part of the race.
Joseph had to come up with plan B, increase speed and apply tactics used to complete the "Tour D EAC" 2017 edition.
With less than a kilometer to go, he was able to overtake Ocira Richard to cross the finish line in 28:47:6 minutes.

With less than a kilometer to go, he was able to overtake Ocira Richard to cross the finish line in 28:47:6 minutes.
His win also required some bit of luck as Ocira while making the final two bends before the finish line, lost control of the wheelchair and fell. That is how Tebandeke was able to capitalize and bring it home.
“We had been neck and neck for the entire race until he tried to maneuver a corner and I overtook him. I am happy to have finally won this year’s road race. Last year I was third. So, this is an improvement,” Tebandeke said after the race.
For Ocira, there was the disappointment despite him being able to get up and finish second despite nearly being overtaken by Kevin Mubiru. Ocira in part blamed the morning downpour that resulted in slippery roads, making it hard for him to maneuver some bends.
Joseph attributes his success to hard work, discipline and above all the endless support from the organizers of the "Tour D EAC".

It was an opportunity for marathon participants in the wheelchair category to come out and participate. Supporting the athletics for the disabled reveals how much the corporate world looks to inclusive sport across the board.

The Use of UAVs Can be a life changing
In an industry that is based around innovation and development, technology can be inspiring and life changing. Technology can be used to do amazing things whose potential and results can only be realized if embraced and utilized effectively.
This can be seen at the recent Geo4Africa Summit held in Kampala - Uganda (July, 2017) where many young Tech enthusiasts showcased their innovations and startups before the organizers and attendants. What caught people's attention most was the UAV Technology use (drones) where a one Asaph Kasujja of Virtual Media company presented.
He showcased his passion for manning the UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle)Technology commonly known as drones and its potential in the future.
UAVs or drones are becoming very popular and most of them are relatively cheaper and user friendly. Below are some of the points that makes them unique;
- can enter environments that are dangerous to human life
- reduces the exposure risk of the operator
- can stay in the air for up to 30 hours, performing a precise, repetitive raster scan of a region, day-after-day, night-after-night in complete darkness, or, in fog, under computer control:
- performing a geological survey
- performing visual or thermal imaging of a region
- measuring cell phone, radio, or, TV coverage over any terrain
- can be programmed to complete the mission autonomously even when contact with its GCS is lost.
- can be used in video production
- can be used in construction
Besides the above use and benefits of drones/UAVs, if not manned well or follow the operator's manual and safety guidelines, there is a possibility of a computer malfunction, resulting in the loss of control in the UAV.
